Rather than having to do all this, it would be great if Evernote could, so I'd have a way of extracting the best text in the hundreds of journal articles I read. I then wrote a macro in Word that takes the text file, formats it into a table, and then I can straight copy that table into Access so the text and all the tags copies. I then paid someone to write a Javascript for me that copies all the stickies into a text file I add the tags with some symbols as I highlight. As journal articles became more electronic, I was able to copy the text from the clipboard into my Access database. I enter the text into the database, and assign it tags. What I have done over the years is I created an electronic index card software in Microsoft Access. It would be great if Evernote had some way of extracting just the highlighted text, and allowiing me to assign tags. I use Acrobat 8.0's highlighint feature to highlight it, which copies the text to a sticky note. If you highlighted just a part of a word, it will not be picked up.I read a lot of technical journal papers as PDF files. Note: The script can only recognize full words. In case you manually entered some text into the comment, don't worry! The script will not remove your text, just add to it (see example #2).
Then click on the down arrow to open the export menu and. Open the comments pane by clicking on the Comments button at the bottom left of PDF Studio. From the Comments Tab choose Export, select the format you wish to export. Highlight your document as you normally would. This is why I developed this script to retroactively insert the highlighted text into existing comments in all of your pre-existing files. CHECK the Copy text to note box from the Text Markup section. Acrobat won't change your existing comments, only your new ones. And when you realize this and switch this setting on, it's too late. As a result, if you make highlights to your file, the text you highlight is not copied into the comment itself, which can be very useful when creating summaries. Sadly, it's not checked by default (see screenshot below). Tool Description: One of the most important settings in Acrobat is "Copy selected text into Highlight, Cross-Out, and Underline comment pop ups" (to be found under Edit - Preferences - Commenting). The script version of the tool is still available, as can be seen below. Feel free to try it out and then purchase the full version to get the full functionality. Alongside the stand-alone version there's now also a free demo version, which will process the first 3 highlight annotations in the first 3 files you use it on.
